About Us

Propelled By Torque LLC was started in 2015 by husband and wife team Jake and Jenn Edelman. Their coaching styles and passion for continual improvement complement each other to provide a unique and diverse training opportunity. Propelled by Torque isn’t a gym. It isn’t a training format or template for the masses. Propelled By Torque is an individualized program that changes and grows with you as your goals are met and your dreams evolve. Propelled By Torque stands on the foundation of strength, leadership, fortitude, humility, cooperation, and encouragement. It is a place for improvement, and development not only as an athlete but as a person.

Where do we train?

Propelled By Torque LLC currently utilizes available facilities in the Greater Ithaca Area. We can often be found at Ithaca College, Cornell University, or many of the nearby high school facilities. By utilizing various facilities Propelled By Torque can be more available to many of the outlying communities and minimize the travel time for our athletes and parents.

Meet the Coaches:

Coach Jenn

Threw for Saranac Lake High School where her father coached her to a shot put record that remains standing to this day. She attended Hartwick College for a Biology degree and threw an Empire 8 record that was broken in 2014 by her husband’s National Champion.  Coach Jenn started her coaching career while still an athlete at Hartwick College.

After college she moved to Ithaca New York to attend Massage school at the Finger Lakes School of Massage and in 2007 began working with Ithaca College Throwers. Coach Jenn and Coach Jake met while coaching at Barton Hall and coached together at Ithaca College for the next few years.

In 2013 Coaches Jenn and Jake were married and Coach Jenn went back for additional schooling in Histology yet remained a volunteer for the Ithaca College Throwers.

In 2015, Coach Jenn wrote a paper on the ‘mental side of practice’ that is incorporated in the Propelled By Torque program.

Coach Jenn is a self-proclaimed “total nerd” that loves to learn as much as possible and share it with those around her.  She is constantly improving herself as a person and an athlete and finds great joy in helping others to do the same.  Her big personality can lift your spirits when you’re down or keep you in check when you get out of line, but most of all Coach Jenn is honest, caring and probably one of the hardest workers you will ever meet.

Coach Jake

Threw for Dryden High School where he competed at multiple state competitions in both discus and shot put.  He went on to compete at the NCAA Division 1 level at Coastal Carolina University.  While there he earned his Bachelors in Marine Science.  He currently holds the CCU shot put record and was ranked in the top 25 in the country for Division 1 in the hammer throw during his senior year of competition.

After completing his undergraduate degree Coach Jake returned to the Ithaca area to pursue his graduate degree in Adolescent Education from SUNY Cortland.  While working as a volunteer coach he was lucky enough to meet Coach Jenn at a track meet.  They began coaching together at Ithaca College in 2009 and in 2013 were married inside a portable throwing circle surrounded by their friends and family.

While Coach Jenn went back to school Coach Jake continued to work with the Ithaca College throwers as well as volunteering at Cornell University with Coach Megan Johnson.  He has had the opportunity to coach multiple All-American throwers at both the Division 1 and Division 3 level.  In 2015 he coached Brandy Smith to a National Championship in the discus throw.

Coach Jake admits to being slightly obsessed with both throwing and training philosophies.   He doesn't shy away from the fact that many of his conditioning circuits have titles taken from the Harry Potter series.  He is constantly working on improving his own knowledge about training and coaching so as to better guide his athletes.  Coach Jake may not be outwardly demanding, but he will always find a way to get his athletes to achieve their very best.
